Farmstay and paddy field homestays put you right next to Perak's working rice fields and small farms, mostly around Kampung Gajah, Bota, Kuala Kangsar and the flatter stretches near Sungai Perak. Instead of a hotel room, you get a kampung house, chalet, or converted barn on or beside active padi land, often with the option to join in on daily farm work: feeding buffalo or goats, harvesting vegetables, learning to plant or thresh rice depending on the season. Some properties are pure homestays run by a farming family, others are set up more like agro-tourism lodges with activity packages, bicycle rental, and bonfire nights.
Because these stays sit outside the usual hotel grading system, quality swings a lot from one property to the next. Before booking, check how close the house actually is to the fields (some "paddy view" listings are a fair walk away), whether meals are included and home-cooked, what condition the bathrooms and bedding are in, and whether the farm activities run year-round or only during planting and harvest season.
